Sugar Glider Neuters

Why should I fix my male glider if he is not broken?

  • Males that are not neutered will give you lots of baby gliders.
  • Unneutered male gliders develop hair loss on top of their heads.  This can be prevented by neutering.

Frequently Asked Questions about Glider Neuters

<![if !supportLists]>1.    <![endif]>Why should neuters be performed at 8-12weeks of age?

Very young gliders handle the anesthesia well and will not get bald if they are neutered early.  We recommend neutering as soon as we can see the testicles in the pompoms.

<![if !supportLists]>2.    <![endif]>How long will my glider be in the hospital?

Surgeries are done on an outpatient basis.  Pets are dropped off between 7:30 and 9am and discharged in the evening of the same day. Surgeries are admitted by appointment only.

<![if !supportLists]>3.    <![endif]>What do I need to do to prepare my glider for surgery?

Do not feed him the morning of the surgery but he can have water until he arrives at our facility

<![if !supportLists]>4.    <![endif]>Will he be in pain?

No. He will be anesthetized with isoflurane, receive a local anesthetic and have a Laser-assisted neuter.  The surgical incision is very small and can be closed with a small drop of surgical glue.

<![if !supportLists]>5.    <![endif]>What can I do to make it easier for him the day of surgery?

We have been using Laser surgery (instead of a scalpel blade) for over 12 years with great success.  The Laser reduces pain, swelling and bleeding as compared to a scalpel blade.  Use of Laser is included in the price of the procedure.  To learn more about Laser surgery click here.
