Surgical Services

We know hearing the word “surgery” isn’t easy for any pet parent. Unfortunately, for some pets, surgery is inevitable. We strive to keep our patients healthy with exams and preventive care. If veterinary surgery is recommended it is because we truly believe that it is in the best interest of your pet. In addition to routine procedures, such as spays and neuters, we also offer the means to perform more intricate surgical procedures, such as mass removals, enucleation, splenectomy, and amputation. Our facility offers up to date surgical equipment such as surgical LASER, radio surgical equipment, and endoscopic capabilities. With this technology, surgical procedures are safer than ever, and post-operative recovery time is significantly reduced.

How We Reduce The Risks

Here at Lakeside Veterinary Center, the safety and comfort of your pet is our top priority. A physical examination is performed and pre-anesthetic blood work is recommended prior to each surgical procedure. Perioperative monitoring and pain management protocols are dependent on individual patient needs and history, not based on generic information. Patient monitoring includes, but is not limited to, pulse oximetry, capnometry, blood pressure and temperature monitoring, and the evaluation of capillary refill times and anesthetic depth. While in the hospital, each patient is also evaluated and treated perioperatively for pain and discomfort, using a multimodal approach. In addition, our veterinary team keeps up-to-date on new protocols and practices by regularly attending continuing education seminars.

Spay & Neuter

Spaying and neutering are the most common elective surgeries that we perform. They are also the surgeries we recommend most often. This is because of the many health benefits that are involved with these procedures. Spaying/neutering can essentially increase your pet’s lifespan by reducing the risk of various health problems. Neutering your dog or cat can reduce the risk of testicular cancer and prostate problems, while spaying can reduce the risk of developing mammary tumors and pyometra.

Laser Surgery

In addition to traditional surgical procedures, we also offer pet laser surgery in Laurel for various procedures. Laser surgery involves “cutting” skin tissue using only a beam of light energy. In essence, the laser vaporizes the skin cells and separates the tissue. The use of a surgical laser greatly reduces blood loss, surgical time, post-operative discomfort, risk of infection and scarring. Pet laser surgery has increased treatment options and enabled surgical procedures not previously possible to species that were once inoperable.
